Catachans for the lazy

As we know, one of the great drawbacks of playing the Imperial Guard is having to paint all that infantry. As it happens I've just hit upon a fairly quick and easy way to get pretty decent-looking Catachan jungle fighters. First, you need this stuff:

L to R: Black, Olive, Woodland Green, Khaki

Now lemme see yer REAL war face!!

Current progress on Gunnery Sgt Harker...

There's still some way to go. Apart from further shading and highlighting on the metal bits, I'm still pondering:

1) How to adorn the base. Could I really be bothered to get moar flock? But then, I am kinda bored of my usual basing techniques...

2) What to put on that shoulder pad. I really like Wong's idea of having it as something Harker got off a Space Marine Scout. That's just the kind of thing that really adds character to a model. I think I'll stew over this one for a bit...

3) Should I write "BAD ASS" all over the headband?

Next up, Sly Marbo. Here's my rendition of Marbo posing next to veteran Guard commander YH's Marbo.

Batrep: DoA vs IG, 1750 pts

Just gonna post some of the pics up from today's scrap with YH's ludicrous horde of men and guns. Will fill in the details when I've got some time. Lotsa work to do this night...

Have you got a war face? AAAAAARRRGGGHHH!!! THAT's a war face!!!

Just felt inspired to put together a squad of Catachan Veterans led by Gunnery Sgt Harker, so I picked up a Scout Squad and some Catachans and a few more Scout weapons off e-Bay. Here's my take on Harker:

Bandana? Check. Shades? Check. Unfeasibly large gun? Check...

Yeah, that's the Heavy Bolter from the Space Marine Scouts box. I'd only noticed recently that there were no sleeves on it like with the other scout arms, so I did a little kitbashing. I'm fairly pleased with how it turned out.The Scout arms were made for a slightly wider body than a Catachan's so I filled in the gap with a little bit of sprue, which I then filed down until I had the right shape.

Also, I figured since Harker's hard enough to be S4 in close combat, I slapped a sheathed Scout combat blade onto his back. I think it looks suitably badass for a Catachan.

I'm also stripping the Scout sprues of their shotguns, and using them for my Veteran Squad. Still not sure what I shoult have as the loadout for my 3 special weapons. Anti-tank shooty with meltas? Or anti-infantry with flamers?

As for the Scouts, they're most certainly not going to waste. I'll be look to try out a small squad of combat scouts. At 100pts, that's a 5-man squad, including a Sgt with a powerfist.

100pts for an outflanking powerfist? Sounds interesting enough to me... More pics to follow as these wee devils get painted...

Moar pics of the Crimson King

Just felt like taking a couple of snaps of the Crimson King...

If you hadn't already guessed, I got the idea of the Crimson King from 2 things:

1) Stephen King's Dark Tower series, though the Crimson King there is a bit more... gribbly... than my shiny little Overlord; and

2) My confidence in painting a good, solid red.

Another source of inspiration was the Red Right Hand, keeping with the theme of a mysterious, unfathomable, inexorable, implacable evil...

Anyway, no real reason for those pics other than a little camera practice. Might do some shots of the Blood Angels, when I get round to putting together some better backdrops. If you've any advice how to get better results with a Sony Cybershot, do tell, please...

Squad Wallace? Squad Gromit?

Why Squad Wallace and Gromit, you ask? Very simple... Look at the Sergeants of my 2 Assault Squads...

See the squad markings on the knee pads? I only noticed after painting the one on the right: "Waitaminute... That's the Scottish flag!" So Squad Wallace came to be. The other squad had their knees done in yellow, waiting for the day I decide on what to paint as their squad marking. Yellow = CHEESE*! And who loves cheese more than Wallace and Gromit? And that's how they came to be.

I just noticed after taking this pic that Sgt Wallace is most improperly attired, that is, I haven't highlighted him yet. This will be rectified...

* Some would unkindly make that remark of Blood Angels in general...

Batrep: DoA vs IG, 1500pts (Now with pics!)

Just got in a quick 1500pt game today with Justin's Imperial Guard. And this time, I brought a camera... which I'm crap with, so I apologize in advance for my failures in photography. Anyway, here's how it went...

WIP: Jumping Angels

Here are some pics of my current projects:

The Vanguard Veterans have been a work in progress for the longest time. Never really got round to finishing them, since they really have no place outside of a focused DoA list.

All hail the Crimson King!

Been a while since I posted anything, what with work and stuff getting in my way. Here's a couple of pics of what I've been up to...
